Problems with gas central heating

thanks pru - that has been in my mind for a while now - problem is, living in a small village all the CORGIs know each other for several villages around (sounds like i live in a kennel, but, i don't ! honest !!)
Each Corgi that has come by has commented on some new poor quality part of the installation - so, if i can get one guy to write a report incorporating them all, i'd be ok - but, they won't "dob in " their local compadres !!!
I do have an excellent CORGi guy who i know who lives 200 miles away -he might come down for a weekend if i could provide enough inducements !!!!
I have only just now got all the leaks fixed - only to discover that the gas inlet pipe is smaller than the regs say !! Maybe i can get a CORGI inspector out after all !!!
some days i want to nail the !!!!!! in court, other days my head says "life is too short"0 -
""As I've thought for some time, Clutton, a trade protection society.""
utterly - i had to contact them about an illegally installed gch system recently on a clients property and they didn't care one jot. This was a system where the flue carrying exhaust gases out of the premises was right next to a opening window, allowing toxic fumes back into the kitchen. There was a single parent mum and a 6 month old baby living there. CORGI defended their "Gas engineer" to the hilt.
This is not true. Corgi do not defend their operatives they just don't police them!. My hubby is corgi engineer and has been ever since the scheme started, way before it became a legal requirement. Every 5 years they have to resit exams. The experienced have to resit exactly the same exams the first timers take and every exam costs a lot of money. All in all it cost nearly £2000 with books he had to buy (full sets even though there were only a handful of updates), his B&B while he was away for the week and his loss of earning, total cost over £3000. This is purely a stealth tax by the government. it is jobs for the boys and money to be made. It makes far more cowboys because a lot of heating engineers cannot afford to pay out this type of money so they keep on installing gas but are not registered.
Corgi is useless, it is a dog with no teeth and it certainly can't be bothered to police it's engineers.
The whole system is ludicrous. He is qualified to undertake LPG work in static caravans but not touring vans. They have the same equipment in them but he wouldn't pay the exam fee and that's the only difference. It's all a complete con. He has wired programmers & thermostats when installing heating systems for over 45 years yet suddenly the government decide he's not competant to do this without yet another pricey exam and pricey registration.
There is a guy locally who has been illegally installing gaswork and has been reported to Corgi, health & safety & trading standards. What happened to him - nothing!.0 -

Your best bet is to write a recorded delivery letter stating all facts & that Corgi were not interested and send to Health & Safety. They are the ones who should police it (you may get lucky). Get someone to give you an estimate for putting the system right and then send it registered to the original guy giving him 30 days to put the work right or you will get it done at his expense. Then you can go through small claims after.0 -
polly says ""This is not true. Corgi do not defend their operatives""
what the heck do you know about my conversations with CORGI ? - absolutely nothing ...... You have no idea what was said ......
The CORGI man i spoke to was patronising, unhelpful and definitely defended his "member" - even suggesting i contact (and blame) the builder who project managed the refurb of the apartement where the baby lived.
It is now 2 years since my own gch was installed, and the manufacturers replaced the PCB and it works as well as it ever will. i have moved on, and dont have the energy or inclincation to take the b*gger to court.
Thanks for the helpful suggestions tho -
polly perhaps you might want to refrain from being so judgemental about my situation which you know nothing about0 -
not quite sure why but you seem to misunderstand everything I say. They do not defend their operatives in the true sense of the meaning. They simply pay lip service. In simple terms. They 'defend' their operatives to you in conversations when what they are really saying is 'we are not interested - go away!
Chill out and start reading between the lines. I was actually agreeing with you that Corgi are totally & utterly useless. I just didn't want you to think that any corgi member actually benefited from them.0 -
"" I was actually agreeing with you that Corgi are totally & utterly useless."" - at least that is one thing we both agree on !!0
