My address book has been stolen

Options
Hi I got up the other morning to 28 delivery failure notices. They were as diverse as the Arts Council and Tesco but some had obviously got through when I looked at my sent mail box for 00.56 am and one had even gone to a recently deceased friend.
It's a hi thought you would like this shopping link supposedly from me and it offers $10 discounts and is in rubbish english,It happened a few months ago as well.
There was a more worrying aspect the following day when someone I know had sent the minutes of a meeting to 12 of us but the shopping attachment seemed to be on the letter as well. My friends/business colleagues are not happy
I have changed my password but is there anything else I can do or is it now too late?
I did also get the moneyexpert e mail which I reported right away

I can't say this has ever happened to me, but I guess your PC has either become infected, or (if you use webmail) you have run a malicious script that has stolen your address-book data.

It's probably a good idea to update all your anti-malware applications (such as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, and your anti-virus), then run scans to make sure your PC is clean.

If you don't discover any malware, maybe you could enhance your web-browsing security by using Firefox instead of IE, installing the NoScript add-on (which is great for improving security, but you'll need to click the icon to manually enable website domains the first time you access them).
  • What anti-virus protection do you use - 'cos it clearly doesn't work and the rest of us would like to know which one it is - so we can avoid it.

I think I'm going to start asking this question every time......
  • Im guessing your using hotmail

its a fairly common spammy thing password change is the best option

its all automaticaly process via a botnet usually that auto logins in and scans.

It could indicate that either you are in the bot net or you have previously been infected
