Anyone done this..........?

Hi everyone1

very soon I'm going to have to get a plumber in to replace my hot water cylinder as it's got a very small leak, my question is has anyone got a tradesman round and asked if they'd do it on the side? a bit like asking "do we have to involve the taxman?" so you'd get it done cheaper?

would like to hear of peoples experiences

best wishes

If it's a job you're likely to want some kind of a guarantee on, then you'll need a receipt or invoice. If you go down the "cash in hand" route you wont get one and may struggle to get them to come back to rectify any faults.

Technically, you will also be complicit in the offence of tax evasion.

Better to concentrate a getting a good, reliable tradesman ( good luck with that!!! ) and pay what he quotes you.[/Q

yeah, just thought it would save abit of money!

Have you thought about getting your boiler changed for a combi one that heats water as you use it instead of using a water tank?

I replaced mine two years ago, and it's great - cheaper to run and more room in the airing cupboard now too.

If you don't pay the taxman then someone has to. i.e. the rest of us have to pay more make up for your evasion!!

I hope that you never complain about poor schools, roads, hospitals, council tax etc!

Um, I have mine vented out through the roof - is the loft your space? If so then you can do that I think. But i'm not sure about your building rules - I have a house so I can do what I want.

Worth looking into though. But you need gas - do you have gas?

no gas, is a hot water cylinder/immersion heater my only option?
