I have the two seater version, Leonard on the Big Bang Theory has the chair!

The cat has all but shredded the back of mine, however you can buy a set of covers fairly cheaply, I got a set in bargain corner.

The only down side with mine is that the cushions are not as soft as the one on the demo models in the store, and after a while ( couple of years or so) the odd feather works its way out of the cushions.

  • I am going to get one - i have the klippan one atm but this one is more practical for my family and I.They are very comfy and feel fairly sturdy. Again, you can get new covers, and ive seen cheap ones on ebay.

Thank you it was the fact that you can get spare covers that attracted me to it, would you say it is sturdy, i did have wooden frame one many years ago but we changed it for a leather one which is after 4 years has seen its last days (wooden frame snapped !!) from DFS

Mine seem in study aside from the cat related problem.

From time to time Ikea renew there room displays and often Ektorp stuff can be found in Bargain Corner.

Maybe you could chat up an assistant to find out when?

Time to pop over and buy some gingerbread house flat packs for the children!!

If you have kids don't bother. Its a good basic sofa but ours has colasped underneath with kids flopping on it and jumping on and off (only the toddler jumps really lol). Its about 4 years old, but Ikea say its more than normal wear and tear for the guarantee (expected as much to be honest).

We are a large family (4 kids) so I guess we are hard on furniture and household goods, althought the kids are particularly rough, just normal lol.

Got DFS leather one on order for crimbo, and the kids are already under orders to look after it or else!!!!

BTW ours is the 3 seater, my sister has the 2 seater which seems a bit more solid?

I have the three seater with the cover as pictured in the sitcom.

My thoughts are, that it is a nice neat settee.

Downside is that it is not on castors (unless it has changed since I bought it).

My cat and the one before it loves to shred the covers on the arm rests etc.

He has also squashed the cushions sitting on the back of the seats.

I think about getting new covers but fear my cat will just start all over again.

Get it if you have no kids or a cat!

  • We have a red two seater, two years old and still looks brand new. It is so comfortable that when my other sofas need replacing (2 x 3 seater leather) I would purchase the Ektorp again.

Price is brilliant, warm to sit on (unlike leather) and easy wash covers!

We have three teenage boys, so our covers tend to stay cleaner than those with toddlers etc.

One last thing, when I want to relax and watch tv, whoever is sitting on it has to move onto another sofa .... It's MINE!!!!!!! :)

    Hope this helps you decide.

I had 2 x the two seater (beige) and wasn't particularly impressed. had them 4/5 years and found that the cushions didn't hold their shape well and that the covers washed really badly (looked worse afterwards!) so looked tired after a year/18 months.

The wooden frame broke but bf did topple on to it quite heavily.

2 adults, no kids/pets. With a bit more care they may be ok but I def would go for a darker colour. HTH
  • Forgot to say we have two cats, they don't scratch the sofa they prefer the stair carpet!

We had the two and three seater. They were OK for the price but the cushions sagged quickly (two children lol) and I seemed to spend my life plumping them back into shape. They lasted about 4 years but would've done longer if someone hadn't kindly given us replacements (second hand but in better shape than these were by then!) although we would've needed another set of covers.
