my insurance company told me on the phone when it's husband and wife it doesn't really matter who is main driver

    for example

wife's car as we call it registered in my name , WE paid for it but receipt in my name

Insurance in wife's name ,I am named driver on her policy

(just as she is named on mine )

Wife takes kids to/from school / college moday to friday ,she does bit of shopping perhaps 3 times a week

evenings / weekends I drive wherever we go

who is main driver ? I'd say 50 / 50 ,this was all explained to insurance company and they were quite ok with it

Is that classed as fronting ?
  • I'm trying to get some advice about my car, that was written off by someone else, through no fault of my own, and this fronting issue keeps coming up... I'VE NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

I've obviously not done anything wrong in my insurance company's eyes, so what is the issue?!!!! It's hard to say who drives the most, other half drives it to and from work Monday to Friday in a 10 minute car journey, where it is left in a car park all day. I do all the driving on a weekend, and running round after the children on an evening with various clubs etc. I can't tell you who drives the most, because we both do!!!! Same as Roy47 says, it's about 50/50 - some weeks I will drive more, other weeks, OH will.

Thank you for your advice Vaio, I am trying to claim through the third party, but it is a nightmare :(

Also don’t forget that, even though it wasn’t your fault and the third party paid out in full some companies will still load your future premiums because you’ve had a non fault incident.

Subject to the normal need to mitigate and document, this extra loading is also reclaimable from the at fault party

Alright then clever clogs, am I fronting with my wife to be?

I bought our car (our because we share it...). I am registered keeper. She is main driver on insurance because 4 days a week she uses it for work, 8 miles each way, 64 miles in total. because of rush hour it takes her 45 minutes each way, so 6 hours.
I use the car 1 day a week, Birmingham to Leeds return. approx 200 miles round trip. 4 hours in total.

She uses it more days and more hours, yet i do considerably more miles. are we fronting for having her as main driver? If our insurance company accused us of fronting I would ask how. like someone said, this isn't between me and my dad for example, for me to get cheaper insurance, it's me and other half. I doubt the insurance company would class this as fronting because you have grey areas with this.

If OP said she is insured as main driver but uses it to go to the supermarket on a thursday night but other than that he uses it everyday for work in Aberdeen when they live in Exeter I'd understand your point, but she said it's pretty much a split, so stop scare-mongering

The fronting thing is pretty simple really, it comes under the rule of "don't take the p155".

If it's mother and son where there is a massive disparity in insurance costs and the mother never drives it then it's fronting.
If it's husband and wife and both drive the car it isn't fronting.

    This really isn't hard.

OP: Are the 3rd party paying for your hire car? If so let them drag their heels as long as they like. Saves on tyres and maintenance!
