Thanks charlearose, that's helped a lot. We'd only had the car for 5 1/2 months, so still nearly 4 1/2 years on finance, I can't see us walking away with anything extra, and will be just really pleased if we break even on the finance.

So far, we have had no problems, the insurance company have been in touch regularly, and have not mentioned anything about the differences in the paperwork, surely they would have said something by now! Have been looking at autotrader in local area and have found an older car than mine with more mileage that would nearly cover the finance, so won't be accepting first offer, have to go back and forward between insurance co. and GAP co.

Just a nightmare start to finish for something that wasn't even my fault :( You'd think they'd make it easier for the innocent party, to sort it al out as quickly as possible? Or would that just be too easy lol!!

From memory, the GAP insurance people will negotiate with the insurance company and reach a settlement.

Either way it shouldnt impact you.

Was it return to invoice price GAP insurance or just one based on how much finance was owed, relative to the value of the car.

All this talk of fronting is a bit silly.

The OP is the main driver on the policy and the policy is in her name. The husband bought the car for her. This is not an uncommon arrangement.

We are talking about a husband and wife here, not a parent and spotty 17yr old boy racer. The insurance won't even question it.

I agree. Unless there is a huge disparity in ages, occupations and risk there simply isn't a problem.

Otherwise husband/wives and partners across the country will be "fronting". How many men own and insure a car, use a train to get to work each day, but the wife is the main driver? Probably hundreds of thousands or millions.

  • Insurance have paid out, whoop whoop!!! No - where near what finance is, so waiting to hear if they will up the offer, or if GAP will cover the remainder, fingers crossed it will all be sorted by the end of this week.

Third party not admitted liabilty yet, so now worrying about excess, no claims of 8 years :(

Thank you for your messages, you have helped a lot, although also scared me immensely with this 'fronting' malarky?!!

If you're not the main driver then you are fronting, which is classed as fraud in the insurer's eyes.

Some policies give you the chance to elect a named driver to be the main driver, so not all cases are fronting or fraud.;)

Take no notice of the fronting police on here, most of them have no idea what they're talking about.

    Some good news.

Ignore those who shout "fronting" at every opportunity. There's a lot of members on here who will read a post and their kneejerk reaction will be "Fronting!"

They are normally the ones who also say that "No MOT = No Insurance" and have learnt all their legalese down the local pub.

8 years no claims will just be dropped to 6 years, so not too bad really.
