ipad rival tablet help please

my wife wants an ipad for christmas and it would come in very handy for the whole family but the price and the fact flash websites doesnt work and also i would have to convert films to watch them on a ipad are putting me off.

i have done some research and found a couple of similar tablets and was wondering if any one had any views or ideas and suggestion on what i should do. have a look at these i found:

if you use the VLCplayer app you dont need to convert movies, i have quid a few xvid movies on my ipad and they work fine
flash well to me not a biggie

my 1st choice would be an ipad as they feel and look quality but it was just a couple of things putting me off.
mainly the price
also the other tablets had web cams built in which is a big bonus for my family

the vega from what i have heard is one of the better ones 'around' (if you can get hold of one as they sold out within 2 hours of being put up for sale) at the moment, especially when you consider the £250 price tag

Have you considered the Archos 101? Seems to have good reviews

Yeah. From what i can gather the vega seems better. But i found out this morning my friend is going to new york at the end of the month and ipads are cheaper over there.

Poppy does the vlc player play mp3s or does,all music have to go through itunes?

Sorry to hijack your thread. Was just about to post a similar question myself.

I'm looking to buy one of these tablets for my boys for xmas - mainly to stop fights over who is using the laptop!!

The main sites they visit are Club Penguin,
Games Freak, Moshi Monsters, youtube + other similar sites.

I'm getting very confused about what spec (not a techi). Could anyone advise a tablet to buy for between £100 - £150 that would be suitable for the above sites.

Vlc player will play your mp3s and no your music doesnt have to come through itunes
