EDF or Eon? Help
Hi
I am not sure what to do. Currently on British Gas WEbsaver 4, coming to an end soon. Instead of going to WEbsaver 10, I have decided to switch (never done it before)
Has anyone looked into EDF WEbsaver 7 vs Eon Saveonline 4 (Dual Fuel)
The EDF one gives me £100 cashback and £80 via Quidco but has a standing charge then one price for both units.
The Eon one has a two tier price (£55 off via Quidco) but I just cant work out which would be best.
Edf guarantee at least 2% below standard rate, while Eon guarantees 6%.
Has anyone done a comparison between these two and fathomed out which is better value .
Many thanks for your help

What is your usage?
The two tier tariffs can be worked out as a standing charge, since you will always use all the Tier1 tariffs. i.e. Standing charge = Tier 1 premium per unit x number of unit.
EDF works out a little cheaper for our usage, which right now is about 200KWh a day of gas and 30KWh of electric.0 -
Hi only know per year
6,600 of elec and 35,300 of gas.
Switching site had Eon come out £30 cheaper but was wondering in your experience I should go for EDF because of the extra discounts. Also wondering about the 2% EDF below standard rate vs 6% with Eon.
I know noone can foretell what will happen but are the online tariffs generally more than 2%, am I making a mistake going to EDF or do you think Eon is a safer bet.

The difference in cashback is £125 so you count that towards the price difference (cashback isn't guaranteed though) E.ON has discounts too for the dual fuel normally?
The other issue is that both lock in, E.On as far as I know charges £30 to end early (Jan 2012) - EDF, I'm unsure of the charge to end the contract early and I seem to remember that there was discussion as to whether they would try and claim back the £100 welcome bonus. So while EDF is cheaper at the moment for your usage we cannot say for sure that will still be the case next year. No one really knows.0 -
Watch out for some of these cashback deals from the energy companies, some do not come to fruition until after a 12 month period or so, Like you I'm on WS4 but will prolly end up just switiching to one of there online tariffs, WS10 or the no tie in version.0

Thus the important thing is to look at the unit cost and beware of any contractual tie in.
P.S. Is it me or has the forum been very slow?0 -

The Exit penalties are £60 for dual fuel on EDF before 31/12/2011.
The Welcome Bonus will not be claimed back see separate thread.

Bear in mind websaver 10 is a £60 canx charge too, just about all suppliers apply an early exit fee, cos the online tariffs are much cheaper than paper bill options0

Thanks for the replies, so who shall I go for eon or edf I am erring towards edf due to the £100 and £80 quidco and reasonable comparable fuel costs, anyone agree?0
