RPI to CPI Early Day Motion 1032

JamesU clearly has taken out of context what I wrote..rather like a N.O.W journalist.
Come what may for all defined rights/final salary pensions will be calculated on CPI, even if we are in a public or private pension. And yes many of us did not sign up for it either.I also realise the acumlatative effect, albeit a lot of less savy people do not.
I hear time and time again people in money purchase schemes who do not take control of their pensions to switch to max their potential. It involves tracking the world markets and acting accordingly. It can be risky and lack of confidence will drive people to stay in cash funds.Nothing wrong with that, but there is money to be made when the markets are on the upturn.Yes you can loose, but to leave funds in equities so close to retirement is not good.Serious advise needs to be sought, as with how to max your pension on retirement.
Come what may these measures are a result of reckless bank lending started by the sub-prime debacle..we are paying for their greed..0 -
Forgive me for not intending to submit willingly to progressive poverty in old age following a retrospective change of the rules, or to being short-changed by stealth or incompetence, which was the subject of my last post above. This is NOT what I signed up for.
And you don't have to viridens. As JamesU says, there are actions being taken by various groups.
Check out www.cspa.co.uk . Here you will find information about the Lobby of MPs on Tuesday 1 March in London. There is still time to use the draft letters etc. on the web page so get in touch with your MP now.
A very warm welcome to the fight.0 -
Don't forget to sign and send the petition! See http://nfop.org.uk/news/docs/Newsletter67a.pdf
and bookmark and spread the word about http://www.pensionersagainstcpi.org/ if you care about this issue.0 -
To be honest, that would probably be the simplest solution - if a modified CPI is devised which includes things like housing costs (rent, mortgage, council tax), then I suspect that would satisfy everyone, or nearly everyone.
Until some movement occurs from them we are on a collision course.
It would seem a shame to me if we have to go through massive strike action from all sorts of people before they finally start to talk as they surely must.
If the far right wing of the party had a 100 or so majority they could follow the severe line advocated by some of the contributors to this thread. However they are not - they have the 'K Clarke' wing of the party + the lib dems in the coalition with labour waiting in the wings.
If they take a hammering in the local elections and the AV referendum succeeds they face the prospect of being in the political wilderness forever with the liberals finding more natural bedfellows in labour.
This cannot excape the attention of the tory grandees whose one instinct is political survival.
Thus the March 1st & 26th protests may be very significant in how this unfolds.0 -
A modified CPI may indeed emerge; but what has dismayed me is the fact that so many different pressure groups have members affected by this change and they have just not united to get a meaningful protest in action. Correct me if I am wrong but 17 February 2011 is the date they have made this change a permanent feature for so many duped pension members. Why all the Unions representing those affected have not united to protest, I can not understand. At this late hour it seems that the only group organised to DO anything is the CPSA now belatedly followed by the NPS, OPA and NFOP. I hope that I am proved wrong but it seems thousands have been let down when a couple of Green Volvo Drivers (and I congratulte them) can organise a petition that causes a Government to rethink (or scrap) a policy, then why oh why have not the representatives of all the Armed Forces, Public Servants and affected private pension members united in action to defend their accrued rights?
There is now widespread awareness of this issue and it is somenting all unions can combine together on within the law as it stands at the moment for the issue affects all.
This may yet prove to be significant and I echo your thoughts.0 -

Not sure if this classroom-style post is justified.
OPs should have the right to articulate and discuss their points of view, irrespective of what these may be.

Methinks you are a bit late Andrea. If you'd have posted this some time back it might have helped but this thread has now evolved into a general discussion about CPI replacing RPI as the change has already been made for this year (so the EDM1032 is now obsolete).0 -

I think this might still depend on whether or not an annulment of the statutory order is feasible though.

Does anyone know if an annulment is feasible? Would welcome any advice don't know much about that side of things.0
