Telewest or NTL, whats their policy on cancellation?

I am moving into a bedsit and from this thread found that these are the only 2 internet options which allow you to use the internet without a monthly line rental.

What are their policies on cancellation as wee will only be at the premises for 7 months before going to south america for 3 months.

??

please help.

I'm a telewest customer and their typical contract is 12months. I doubt you'll be able to change that. I have negogiated reduced line rentals for their phone and reduced broadband costs for similar long absences abroad but I had already been a customer for twelve months. Your best hope might be to ask for a pause in the contract so that you pause it for three months and then it picks up again. Doubt they'll do it free, possibly half price for those months if they even do it. These companies tend to be fairly inflexible during the first twelve months (though you can get great deals thereafter).

NTL and Telewest are both NTL Inc. As such in my experience they don't overlap in an area. For example, my only choice of cable is via telewest and enquiry at NTL gets me redirected to telewest. You can do a postcode check via their websites. If you buy via their website you do get the distance-purchasing "change your mind" cancellation clause of 14days and telewest offer free installation and £10 off for online purchases.
