Stress - how do you cope with it?

  • Sport is the way i deal with it. Am sure it has been proven that it makes you feel good afterwards and you can 'vent' your stress at the same time.

Other than that i enjoy my xbox for an hour or so, when i am playing games i don't think of anything else so can get away from it for an hour. Reading also helps.

Everyone has their own way and there is no one way of dealing with it. My previous job (armed forces) taught me to prioritise what is important and what really is not 'life or death' so i tend not to get excited about much unless something serious happens.
Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
  • Don't feel silly for moaning - your problems are just as valid as everyone else's.

My ways of coping with stress:

    - Long hot bath and a bit of general pampering (hair mask, face mask, do my nails etc)
    - Watch rubbish films
    - Curl up with a good book or a magazine and some hot chocolate
    - Go for a walk, or even just try to get outside for half an hour on your lunch break or similar and get a bit of fresh air

I believe there have also been studies saying that exercise helps with stress and a lot of other things that can reduce stress, such as helping you to sleep better. I have some DVDs called 10 Minute Solutions (about £4-5 each on Amazon) which are very good, you can get them in lots of different types of workout such as aerobics, toning, Pilates, yoga etc so you'll find something you like and because they're only short workouts they're great if you don't have loads of time.

  • 'The doctor explained it to me as that we all have a particular threshold for stress and I'd just reached mine'..............that quote is really important because its not about how alwful the situation is that caused the stress as in losing close ones, serious accidents it is about how WE react. Very hard to put yourself in somebody elses emotions. When someone is not functioning as they should.i.e not sleeping well if at all, appetite bad, just to name two then they are suffering and need to seek advise/help which is the reason for starting this thread..Some really tips have been forthcoming too. Thank you, I think it may be a case of a lot of little problem piling up to really get at me, I do understand that, I need to find a way to cope.

Not having child care is completely different to the lose of a child, I agree. But not having childcare put my job at risk, as did the bosses son's bullying & prejudice, I am a single parent, I don't have an ex paying maintainence so as the sole provider for my family these little problems do worry me.

I know I'm being negative, I'm normally a very positive person but this is one of the things I seem to have lost in the last few months.

I know there are people far worse off, and I do feel silly about moaning about these things, the problems have each got dealt with as best I can but the lasting effect on me physically remains and it's that I need to deal with.

As for taking up sport, sometimes keeping up with a 6 year old & keeping on top of the house work feels like a sport in itself but I take your point and will see if I can find an exercise dvd or something I can do when DS in bed.

I'm a busy working mum and don't handle stress very well. I normally hate exercise and just can't be bothered but vie discovered zumba ! Have you heard of it. I go to a class but am going to get the DVD so that I can do it twice a week. I find it a great stress reliever, it's a dance based exercise, it's a laugh, effective and really fun to do!

My way probably isn't the best recommended but I go out and have a big blow out :undecided

A shopping day (even if it is window shopping and just a small treat), followed by dinner with a ruddy good friend and lots and lots of wine
Why wouldn't that be recommended, it sounds brilliant
