SP - new prices, are they after the price hike or before?
Options
Hi,
I'm currently on the online saver 7 deal that ends at the end of Nov. I've just had my email from Sp offering the deal be extended until Nov 11 but I'm confused tbh.
The new prices they have quoted are a little more on elect but double on gas but I'm not sure if these prices are before the increase or including it because the price booklet is dated Nov 10.
Also when I looked on a comparison site, it mentioned another deal with Sp, online energy saver 11 with a better gas price than I'm offered so I tried to look into this but there are no details on this offer on the SP website.
Has anyone else heard of this offer?
Thanks

Another question sorry.
If I decide to move over, and I do the online switch on 30 Nov, do you think I will have to pay the exit fee? I want to be able to get the £100 offer still and that expires on 30 Nov.
Plus, am I right in thinking the new prices will start from the day I am accepted for the switch over?
Thanks.0 -
Hi,
I checked the "special offer" for Online Energy 7 customers, no standing charge, and noticed the doubling of the gas price, for the primary rate.
This would increase my annual bill from ~£630 to~£830 on annual consumption of 12000kwh gas and 2500kwh electricity.
I can't see any refererence to prices with a standing charge anymore.
The new prices for Online Energy 11 would give me a bill of ~£650!
This is because the prices are slightly lower than the new OE7 ones and the limit for the high, primary gas price has been reduced from 4572kwh to 2680kwh.
The new OE7 prices don't seem to be on Uswitch, at the moment, so I can't confirm that I haven't made any mistakes in my calculations.
Cheers,

Hi, I am in the exact same position as davecampbell. I received the email from SP this morning about a 'special offer' for existing Online Energy Saver 7 customers, starting next month when the current deal ends, and it shows a doubling of the price for primary gas units and an increase of 25% for the secondary units. No way does this match the SP announcement about their increases which says a 2% increase for gas users managing their accounts online. I have struggled to find a full list fo the various tariffs on the SP website and it won't let me log on to my account to model other options (suspect their site is overloaded now).
I also saw Online Energy saver 11 and thought it looked cheaper, but again - can't find full details. Frankly I think SP should have shown 'before' and 'after' tariffs in their email so we can see what is going on. This info isn't even on the website.
I am on 31000 kWh/year gas usage so this makes a big big difference to me!
Can the Scottish Power rep on this forum comment please?0 -
Hi,
I'm in a similar situation. Not looked at the figures yet but tied i nuntil 30th November.
Another question...will I need to wait until 1 December to do the switch over to avoid the exit fee or can I start the process now?

Hi,
The tariffs are there on the website, but not easy to find, as usual.
I suspect that the inflated cost of the primary rate on new OE7 is a mistake - they've probably forgot to change the threshold for it, to the same value as the new OE11
I can't see any reason to change before Dec 1. If you change on that day, or soon after, you will get the new rate immediatley and you will have chance to compare other suppliers' offers first.
The real problem is if SP are much more expensive than others. Because of the delay involved in swapping, we will be stuck with SP for most of the winter.

Dave, I hope you are right that the new rate is a mistake (the upper threshold for primary gas units looks too high).
I just did some sums which show that for me, the Online Energy Saver 11 tariff - which they are still advertising - would be 15% cheaper than new OE7, i.e. a 10% increase, not a 25% increase, overall.
HOWEVER if you click on the links on the website to try to apply for OE 11, it's not possible to apply. I think they have stopped applications. !!!!!!!s. (Isn't it against the law to advertise something at a particular price but refuse to sell it when asked to?).
I fear we're stuffed and they have got away with a huge price hike, far higher than what they told the press. Of course the lazy press just take companies' press releases without doing proper checks on the data.0 -
Hi antrouser
Thank you for your query. The 2% increase in gas prices is an average across all supply areas. Make sure that you check the units that are being charged at the Primary rate as this has recently been changed from 1143 kWh per quarter to 670 kWh per quarter. This will have an impact on your annual charge if you have not taken this into account.
The best advise I can give if you are looking to query the new tariff being offered with other tariffs that we are currently promoting, is to contact our sales team to see what the best option is for you (Tel: 0800 400 200).
The prices that are being offered for the Online Energy Saver 7 will be taking into account the recent price change.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind Regards

I cant get back into my SP account now, its crashed as well.
I have worked out roughly that I would be better off moving to EDF on their online saver 7 and pay their standing charge esp for elect plus the gas will be cheaper as well but I'm worried about the price hike in March. How bad is that going to be???????????:(
I hate all this confusion, why can't they make things simpler?0 -
The Scotish Power website seems to be falling apart today.
In the past, I have had no problem ringing them up and asking to be put on to a new tariff, without penalty (I always check with them first - I they were to apply a penalty we might as well got to a cheaper supplier).
From the earlier respone from the SP gentleman, it does look like the OE7 2011 tariff contains an error.
It look like OE11 2011 will be cheaper than OE7 2011 anyway.

I was trying last night to change to scottish power online energy saver 11 as I have been on Discounted energy dec 2010 which ends this month. I had problems trying to do this online so rang Scottish Power this afternoon and a cs advisor did it over the phone for me.
He said there have been problems with the website but didn't know why.
Some products are being withdrawn very shortly so be quick.0
