energy supplier with normal landline numbers?

Hello MSE's,
I know it might sound odd, but I've come to conclusion, that all savings made on energy bills is costing me more in phonecalls alone!:(
I have had to deal with my deceased friends estate and all them calls had ended costing me £120 for listening tasteless jingles.
I will not get BT or any other landline for such purpose as not had wired phone for @ least ten years and do not intend to go back stone age now.
Well, I checked my last bill from BG- £180 (quarterly)for electricity alone:eek: - meant one thing only- boot and change of supplier... most tariffs etc seemed better, than what I got, but then "cancellation fees" came to my attention
So the question I'd have: any energy supplier you know that uses 020 or 014 etc etc, not 0845 or 0870 or 0800 numbers? I will shop around by phone to find better deals and will have a peace of mind, that whenever I need to ring them (IE give meter readings or even to change supplier for any other reason)- I will not be worse off?
Many thanks!

    Google Say no to 0870.
Whats wrong with using the Interweb to communicate with you energy supplier, or to submit meter readings, thats what most people do.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Or indeed to find the cheapest supplier. Why 'phone around' when you can do it in 2 mins on a comp site?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Well I imagine, what would be like, If I would pass away.... also, them massive bills, that I've run in to because: some where sending red bills to account (Remind you he was in better place already), then needing to set up all DD's etc, then all so sudden payments, that I made- gone missing... those where issues, when phone only worked for me and costed silly
Not big deal to submit details over Internet, though I am annoyed with them not having/ not giving normal numbers to call. So I made my mission to find a supplier, that has sense in letting me(anyone) to contact as per human (not Neanderthal via drums/land line) using mobile phone... thats all really

  • Eon (in my experience) will happily call you back once you get through to someone. Or you can like someone else said, just use saynoto0870.com to get a landline or 0800 no.

Thanks! (not exactly what I was after, but near acceptable condition)

Still do remember (about 10 years ago) on a bill there where few national numbers and local depot number to speak about local (To me) customer queries...:(
  • Well EDF does have 0800 customer service and there service is fine, I`ve used it a few times - no hassles.

Mind you, my gp have changed there local number to an 0845 number. Why? I`m not sure.... I mean no-one who is 400 miles away is going to really benefit but locals who have no landline are going to cough up. I`m fed-up with these 087,0844,0845 etc...

0800 numbers are not free from a mobile phone which is what the OP uses.

I'd hardly call having a landline phone going back to the Dark Ages!

What's so good about anyone being able to get in touch with you all the time, anyway? (which is what a lot of people expect with mobile phones). Who wants to be at the beck and call of their employers 24 hours a day, seven days a week?
