site running slow?

Good god the site is slow today

the site is currently running slow due to the large amount of guests/users currently posting/refreshing the amazon black friday deals thread in the quick, grabit while you can thread as a wii game 'just dance' is just about to go live in 4 mins

expect it to get a lot worse again tonight and for the rest of the week while the deals are on

800 current members + appx poss 4000 guests

this rises to 1500 guests and poss 7000 guest of an evenin

roll on next week

Yes I figured it was the Grabbit! Amazon Black Friday topic, so many people are complaining about it being a con etc etc.

Nearly 9000 on here as I type, no wonder it's slow!

totally agree site can't cope with the traffic levels and is only slow on the forums it dropped out for me last night at 9 ish and this morning at 6 ish.
problem is this is only ever going to get worse as more people come along just looking. 2 options to go forward
1. make all people register to see and use forums the free loaders either disappear or register also kick any bots out hooking up to the sites feed.

2. change server with larger bandwidth pipe feed

alright prob has been exceptional traffic but as more sales or stuff comes along prob has the potentional to only get worse if it was me i would go with option 1 make people register for the forum if they really want to see the info they will register if they really not that fussed the forum will get less traffic but to be honest its not like that traffic will ever contribute just steal bandwidth from the real users of mse forum i know that sounds mean but 7000 guests with not one of them bothering with any input i would personally keep the forum use running over the freeleechers and martin is a top money saving idea no need for spending out more on larger servers and larger feed pipes :money:
