Many thanks to all who have replied and made me feel a lot better about this today. I will return the next letter as 'addressee unknown' then just sit tight and wait.
Many thanks.0 -
Well, the 72 hours have passed so now it's just a waiting game.
I have just been reading up on the Internet about their methods, the many, many people who have heard off them and in a lot of cases, contacted them.
Does anyone know if their collection agency is 'real' and legitimate? I remember seeing this name on the letter (before I destroyed it): meritforce.co.uk
Thanks0 -
They are real, but they have been in bother with the OFT http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updates/press/2009/44-09
If they give you any grief, write a formal leterr of complaint to them quoting the OFT terms and cc it to the OFT.
If they make a hash with enough people, they could lose their license. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks RAS.
Are you suspecting that since they mentioned MeritForce on the letter they sent, they may send them round, or do they mention MeritForce on the majority of letters as a scare tactic?0 -
Also, another question if I may. Well, a couple.
If I return an unopened letter as 'Addressee Unknown' or 'Not At This Address', etc., is there any guarantee it will actually get back to the sender?
Do I just write 'Addressee Unknown', etc., on the front and highlight the return address, if there is one, on the back of the envelope?
Should it have a new stamp?
Thank you.0 -

They often mention all sorts of things, going to court, being forced to sell your home, taking away every worldly possession you have, massive legal fees and so on.
It will all be preceded with words like, "We may" or "We will have to consider", "possibly", "could"... such as:
"This may lead to us taking serious legal action through the terrifying court system which can mean your home is repossessed, all your money being taken, your children sold into slavery and your sky sports subscription downgraded to a basic package"
They may try all sorts of things. Or they may not because in the real world this isn't your debt so isn't your problem.

I'll ask again as I think this was overlooked

Just put 'moved away -please return to sender' and you can highlight the address if you want to but, quite honestly, the post office does tend to know what to do in these cases.
Since this man has absolutely nothing to do with you now, think about how you would react if you had moved into the house after he had left and you'd never met him. Then act as though this is the case (but obviously don't lie if it ever comes to it). Just keep saying to yourself - I know nothing about the whereabouts of this man and he has nowt to do with me.
Then have a gin and tonic and chill!0 -
PS - don't bother about a stamp,.0

I think I've received my second Muck Hall letter but do not want to open it so do not know for sure.
Does anyone know if their 'undelivered' address is 'The Handling Center, Doncaster' ?
Thanks0
