Sold car

I sold my car back in June with webuyanycar.com, sorted out the paper work etc. etc. etc.

I recieved a letter about 2 weeks ago stating that it had been seized in manchester and im still down as the owner?? which obviously not and that each day it is been held there £28 will be added to the amount.

However I dont have any documents to prove I sold the car to webuyanycar.com

What do I do?
Help me!

Are you saying they didn't even give you a receipt??
  • Did you send off the change of ownership section of the registration document? (other posts on this forum, however, have highlighted problems with the DVLA loosing these - therefore some folk send using registered post)?

Like CHR15 said, you would surely have received documentation from webuyanycar.com.

You could contact the DVLA yourself?

    Good luck.

If you failed to send the V5 off telling the DVLA you sold the vehicle they will still hold you responsible, You should expect all sorts of letters demanding money and threats of legal action.

Do you know why it was seized? Private company or police/council.

I know it's after the fact, but I always write to the DVLA when I dispose/sell a car, in addition to paperwork. Usually get a nice thanks back as well.

You're bound to have emails, something that shows a connection to webuyanycar?

I now take the V5 to the nearest local office, I think the DVLA are chucking ogbooks away to get in more money from fines.

I have one close friend that also got fined for not sending his V5 in, just as I was.

You might think, so what, but in the last 12 months only two of my mates have sold a car, him and I, not good odds, not good odds atall.

And don't try to fight it, they just increase the fine, £215 in my case, with £15 victim reparations, what a cheek, I was the victim of the DVLA losing my V5.

So from now on, I take it to a local office, you get a dated reciept, you are pretty much golden as then you have discharged your duty to "deliver" the form. Lets see them get out of that one next time

This happened to me. I was fined by them for not advising them of the new owner (my friend who purchased my car) although she sent the paperwork off which we had signed, after a few weeks we both had bad family issues and didn't notice when nothing came back in the post from the DVLA. They say to contact them within a certain time limit if you don't receive anything back.
