Hi, great pics and write ups, I think it might help to put the name of the maker into the title as some people search particularly this for eg, monsoon, next. Maybe state that it comes from a non smoking pet free home (only if it does obviously!) If i sell clothes which I dont often I always state that they will be freshly washed prior to packaging and packed carefully. Maybe use some cheap tissue paper to wrap in, then if you do use a black bag at least it looks nice when opened! To get your feedback up try buying a few very cheap little things maybe stocking fillers for xmas? or things that are local to you so you dont have to pay postage (check that people allow collection before bidding though as some dont) Good luck and happy selling!

  • I understand exactly. But although they haven't been on my back - one of the tops has just sat in there for years just waiting to be worn.. but hasn't. The tags have been taken off it, new without tags. It's in perfect condition, it's just been in the cupboard aside all of my other clothes. So definitely under no circumstances washing then?

  • Have a play with the new beta analytics that ebay is using. I might help you see any flaws in your keywords etc.

second hand clothing is a tough market on ebay and without feedback you will struggle. However as others have said most people bid in th elast few minutes anyway.

Alsoyou have to remember that clothes are still cheap on the high street, so paying £3.50 to have something delivered from you might just not seem worth it.

Do watch your fees though, listing fees, FVFs and paypal fees will all add up quite quickly. You need to have your packaging ready as people expect items to arrive in a few days, so make sure you are prepared to send within a day or two of payment.

  • As mentioned above ebay bidding can be VERY unpredictable and after learning hard way once I personally would never start auctions below the genuine minimum I'm happy with. You must be prepared to sell at your opening bid price and never rely on the bid increase, consider it a bonus instead.
It's not necessarily what you're doing and how you're presenting your items(but that is of course very important), but with the massive amount of clothes listed on ebay your item must be noticed by the prospective buyers and I'd recommend using all of your title space to put as many relevant(!) keywords as possible that describe item as that's exactly what will bring your item in the search when somebody looks for something. Also good idea is to put brand name in the title. Oh and word "women's" isn't needed in the title in my opinion, you're already listing it in womens category.
Things that don't sell or you wouldn't get much for them, say basic t-shirts, vests etc can be put in a bundle and sold that way.
Mailing bags are probaably the cheapest way to send clothes in, you'll find thousands of them on ebay, search by cheapest including p&p.
And yes washed items DEFINATELY can't be put down as "new without tags".

I must say this is one of the things that puts me off, particularly regarding woollen or vintage items, as I had a misfortune to receive woollen items that sellers washed AFTER taking picture and shrunk/mishaped it,jumper I received was at least two sizes smaller and felted after being washed in washing machine instead of handwashing, as well as once I emailed seller regarding where my item was after a week of waiting and got a reply that it was still drying out after being washed a few days after the auction finished:eek:

  • I think overall for first auctions these are pretty good. I always try to use a mannequin for clothing as it gives a better indication of what something looks like when on a person. Your pictures are good and show the clothes off well :)

Personally when selling clothing I would suggest you always try and put the name of the store/designer, size, colour and a brief description in your title (if it will fit) I notice you have the size, colour and description but no shop/store name – some people will search on designer and size rather than on the type of garment

So for instance I would’ve put

Quiz Size __ Turquoise Top / Dress

If they are new always try and put *NEW*, NEW or if they are new with tags I always put BNWT at the end of the title too :)

I always state that my items come from a non smoking home as this can encourage buyers – especially when it comes to clothing and fabric items.

I use mailing bags for clothing usually, you can buy them off Ebay in bulk to save money.

Don’t worry too much that your items don’t have many bids on them yet – have you looked to see how many watchers you have? This can give an indication of how well something will sell as a lot of watchers can mean a bidding war later on – a lot of people don’t bid in till the auction is coming towards the end so the price doesn’t get over inflated early on.

Lastly unfortunately Ebay is a fickle place. You may find that things you didn’t think would fetch much will fly and reach a good price, equally things you may think would sell well just don’t get snapped up. When listing you must remember that sometimes things will go for less than you’d like, it’s the nature of the beast but equally sometimes things will sell for more than you anticpated.

I find it best not to have a price in mind that you want and if you do then just list that item at above it – it’s the only way to make sure you don’t get disappointed.

Good luck – I’m sure that once you start building up feedback you will notice a difference as unfortunately people can be quite wary of newbies.

  • Thank you for the tips everyone .

One dress has eight watchers, and another top has two. Hopefully they'll go for a decent enough price - and there's still 24 hours to go until the auction is up. I'm actually really nervous :rotfl:. The dress was bought for £30 and worn once, so I don't want it to go too cheap.

I have taken into consideration what you have all said.
Next time I put up items i will post in the link where they are from. I think that will help because I can't find my items in any searches I've made.

So there's nothing else I need to know then?
