Non ABS brake set on ABS car? Help!
Afternoon all, would really appreciate some advice - in trying to be MSE I may have shot myself in the foot! Had ordered some brake pads and discs for my car (a 2002 puma), and thought after checking out the dash and seeing no ABS light that it obviously hadn't had it as an option when built so ordered without ABS set.
Today pads arrived and went to have a tyre repair when I noticed the second cable indicating ABS - turns out the bulb is out on the dash and it does have ABS, now my bargain brake set is going to cost a fortune to return to seller unless they can be used?!
Long shot I know, had a look on the Mintex site and it says the difference is the set I have this as a description -
Braking / Drive Dynamics: For vehicles with ABS, Supplementary Article/Supplementary Info 2: Includes brake discs and pads., Brake Disc Type: Internally Vented, Ø: 258 mm, Br. Disc Thickness: 22 mm, Wear Warning Contact: Excl. wear warning contact, Brake System: Teves
whereas the set I need have this -
Fitting Position: Front AxleSupplementary Article/Supplementary Info 2: Includes brake discs and pads., Brake Disc Type: Internally Vented, Ø: 239,5 mm, Br. Disc Thickness: 20 mm, Wear Warning Contact: Excl. wear warning contact, Brake System: Teves
so do I have to send them back for an exchange? Seller said they'd be fine but not sure I believed him....
Please advise and also feel free to tell me I'm an idiot!

I have a catalogue here that gives the same pads for the 2 disc sizes. From 00 to 02 the only other pad listed is for the 160bhp ST1600

I thought brake pads could only be sold in sealed boxes which could preclude returning an already opened set.The man without a signature.0

As long as the pads are the same size to what is on your car and they are for the correct size disc that is on your car, I doubt there will be any difference at all.
However, from your description, the pads look to be different sizes. I would take one off and check.0 -
Esmerobbo & djheath - thanks for that but I should have specified I'm talking about pads & discs set - told you I'm an idiot!
Vikingaero - Seller said he would take them back for an exchange even if I opened them - nice guy but not very convincing!0 -
What puma is it exactly and I will look on the autocat!0

It's a 1.7l thunder if that's what you need to know? Thankyou!0

up to Sept/09 had 240mm discs Oct/00 to Dec02 had 258mm discs. The pads changed at the same time. So if yours is 02 and the discs he sent you are 258mm they should be fine.0

Thanks for that, in which case if they're useable why would the seller go to the trouble of listing two different types?! (One with ABS, one without)0

I don't think the size of the discs or pads will make the slightest bit of difference to your car's ABS system. As long as the discs and pads are compatible with your particular vehicle (engine size), you should be fine.0

the number of wrong deliveries we get from the motor factor if you couldn't resell opened boxes they'd go bust in no time0
