Hi, a bit of advice please;

we have 3 desktop PCs plugged up to a 4 port router.

we also have a wireless enabled lappy used mainly at work on their network.

Q.
Is there a receiver/transmitter unit I can plug into the the 4th. port so the lappy can be used wireless in the home?
Or am I going have to buy a replacement router?

I think what you need is called a "Wireless Access Point".

Was wondering if there was a 'dongle' sort of thing to upgrade the existing router cheaply.
But I agree, for the price, may as well have the proper bit of kit.
