If you have any asian or indian fruitshops near you I'd thouroughly recommend these. I stay in Glasgow and head for an area called Pollokshields which has a high asian/indian community. Their fruit shops are the best. Cheaper, riper stuff sold outside - so it would be ready for eating. Stuff that would last a bit longer laid out inside. I dunno where they get there fruit from - but they're oranges/tangerines etc taste better than any supermarket stuff. And dirt cheap.

I always look for BOGOF with fruit, I must admit I don't find fruit expensive when you look at the alternatives it's actually quite cheap. Hubby came home last week with 2 big bags of popcorn for our boys, his defence was they were cheap, I pointed out how much fruit he could have bought for same price.

I have to agree here although I live in a rural area when I go to city (Southampton) I visit asian cash & carry & buy all sorts of things from rice to meat to fruit & veg very cheaply.
  • when i go to visit my nan we go to the indian supermarket they're fruit and veg is sooo much cheaper and theirs loads of different things to try.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

My family gets through loads of fresh fruit too. I buy mine from Netto, much cheaper than Tesco and has good special offers. they are good for salad stuff too. I do find you have to check it carefully though because the quality is not consistent.

I always grab some from asian shops too when I am passing, they are great for things like mangoes and pomegranates, much cheaper than the supermarkets.

  • Can I ask all the folks who have got fallen apples under their trees to pick them up, put them in a box. Write FREE on the side and place them by the gate. It's such a waste letting them rot on the ground. I appreciate there's a limit to the amount you can eat/process yourself, so if your overwhelmed. GIVE THE REST AWAY.[/QUOTE]

This reminds me of a few years ago when I was out on a bike ride with my friend. We went past a farm and they had an absolutely massive pile of cauliflowers outside with a sign behind saying Cauliflowers Free - we loaded up our bikes as best we could and went home delighted. The next day we went back and the pile was much smaller and you could see more of the sign which said Cauliflowers for Freezing - 15 p each!! We didn't go that route for quite a long time...:o

I usually go to my local market, but I think I'll start trying Lidl as my market vendors are both rude and stupid.

I find Tesco value peppers excellent - the onl reason they are value is because they are a smaller size than the regular peppers.
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment
