Homeserve boiler breakdown

Options
I have just had world war three with Homeserve and Ideal boilers. I am a chronically disabled woman who has been paying £23 a month for what I thought was 24/7 call out if a problem occurred. Well 6 weeks ago my boiler packed up not a noise, so I called Homeserve, as it was 7pm at night I was told they could not sort anything out but would have someone round the following day, never heard from anyone, in the meantime tried once again the boiler and it fired up, forgot about th missed call, anyway since then my radiators are all needing bleeding, as they are warm at the bottom but not at the top, rang Homeserve again, they once again cannot help me til next day, never heard anything so re rang, they said no one had passed the job onto Ideal, anyway she passed it on, Ideal rings me, we don't bleed radiators get a plumber out? I said I'm paying £23 a month for 24/7 call out if I have a problem, they don't do that, if I want boilers bleeding I have to pay for a plumber, I asked why am I paying £23 a month, reply to fix your boiler, I said I need someone to come and fix the boiler as there is obviously something wrong or it would not cut out, well it was like talking to a brickwall, and if I raise my voice once more the call will be terminated. I am severley disabled sat in the freezing cold, paying £1000 heating bills and they do not want me to raise my voice. I am considering going to my local county court and applying to get all my payments returned from Homeserve, they are obviously mis-sellinfg their products, Ideal boilers state they do not do 24/7 breakdown cover and I shall hear from someone by Thursday, this is totally unacceptable, What a rip off, please Martin let people know this.

  • I expect bleeding radiators is classed as routine mainenance, and thus wouldn't be covered under 'emergency cover'?

Sorry to hear about your problem.

However I do agree with the above post, that this is routine maintenance and not a breakdown situation.
I don't think is covered by your policy and it won't matter how much you raise your voice.

Are you getting benefits as a seriously disabled person?
I think you need to get someone round.
If you don't know anyone then call an organisation like Age concern who should be able to receommend someone, but basically this is maintenance that is your responsibility. Maintenance is not the same as a breakdown and won't be covered by a breakdown policy.
I don't think they have explained this to you very well over the phone unfortunately.

I would imagine its not classed as an emerg, but i also have cover with Homeserve and pay less then you.

I had a problem with my boiler so they came to fix it, was the fan, but at the same time i explained one of my radiators wasnt working so they told me if it was a valve or bleeding problem they could do it, but if my whole system needed flushing they would charge for it.

So the guy came and had a look, smashed the valve off (said it was v corroded) hit it with a spanner and said he would have to go into the loft to flush the system:mad: anyway i had to go pick my daughter up from school by this point and he wasnt allowed to stay in my house on his own so he said he would rebook his visit.

Low and behold i come back from picking her up to find my radiator was red hot:rotfl: so i guessed he saved me £200. Thanks Mr Boiler man!

Your insurance should cover radiators, but i doubt they will rush to get there. and if they tell you your system needs flushing then they will prolly charge u for it
  • Have just had a neighbour round who has looked at my boiler and there is no pressure in it, so no wonder no heating or hot water, still sat here freezing and beginning to wiff a bit now, Homeserve and Ideal boilers no help whatsoever. Why when I pay Homeserve, do they pass me to Ideal?? when I'm told they cannot contact them after 8pm so where is the 24hr call out.... also I am covered for radiators just checked my policy, I would say I'm blazing but I cant hence the icicles on my nose I really cannot say that. By the way age concern no use, I'm 45 years old diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis age 2, chronically disabled paying through the nose for warmth and still sat freezing 6 weeks and 36 hrs later. What diaboliqual service!!! Would have been better putting the £23 a month in the bank and paying a private engineer.

That's awful, i see Homeserve have given you an email address via this thread, have you contacted them?
  • Am I missing something but I cannot see an email address to contact them? Just been back on to Ideal Boilers as that is who Homeserve have contracted my boiler out to, they have now booked someone for tomorrow, this is not acceptable, I paid this money and expect a level of service, so that when my boiler breaks down It will be fixed same day, not 3 days later, then if parts are needed then I will be waiting longer, I have just asked them why I am not top priority with being disabled, they said they have no such facility? So this is emergency cover............... I don't think so.
  • Please read my thread on my problems with homeserve. 7 weeks without heating or hotwater because of their engineers incopetence at fitting a pump.
Its on the utilities board, unfortunatly I cant post the link as im a new user
