By the way, the example they used is that a daily parking is £23 somewhere, whereas the fine is £50, but paid early, it's £25. The £2 difference encourages less honest people to take their chances. It's even worth if you get lucky only once in two weeks! (10x£23 vs. 9x£25). I can agree that it's not fair for those people who actually pay for parking.

But - my solution would certainly not be to hike the £50 for the very few pay it (as they pay half, more quickly), but to not let them pay the half more than once a year (or even week/month, if you feel generous).
    Enjoy the silence...

There is an easy solution to this madness.. don't park where you shouldn't be parking.

It's not just where you park though, it's how long you park. When I go into town the only place I can normally find to park is a side street where you can stay for one hour with no return within an hour. It's very difficult if you're going into town to do some errands to limit yourself to one hour.

And that's when I go in the week, if I go at the weekend the only place I can ever find is in a private business car park, even their customers only get 90 minutes.

The fines in Leeds don't seem to be doing the trick and there are loads of illegally and inconsiderately parked vehicles around. The block the roads, they block the pavements, and sometimes they even prevent the buses and dustbin trucks getting past at all.

I agree with what another poster said; they can make the fines as high as they like because I won't be paying a penny as I park legally and considerately. Though usually I just use a bicycle as it's less hassle all round.

I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Actually its not illegal to park on double yellow lines as local councils deal with this not the police, and for disabled drivers as long as they are not causing an obstruction they can park there, and for unloading or loading a vehicle there is an exemption, so please get your facts straight! And I think inconsiderate bus drivers who pull out in front of me without signalling should get 3 points on their licence, and docked a day's wage, its about time they showed respect to other road users!

I sometimes think that most drivers south of Derby think indicators are there to stop the ends of the vehicle from fraying! :rotfl: Then again, they stop at crossings, which is quite rare in the north, tbh. And try telling the traffic wardens down Walcot Street in Bath that loading and unloading is ok, that's what half the cars on there are doing when they get done for it!

Anyway, back to the story. Hm, council fines going up to roughly the cost private clampers charge just as they're about to be outlawed? I think the councils are planning to expand, personally.

As a driver of a bus in the city of Bath I think the fine should go up to £1000. Plus the removal of your licence and your car! Is it not about time people respected the law. It is illegal to park on yellow lines etc. These inconsiderate people have on more than one occasion held up emergency service with their illegal activities.
As an idea why doesn't everyone just obey the law and then you won't have to worry about the fines!!!!!!!!

Ditto, but only with the proviso that all inconsiderate bus drivers, taxi drivers et al are treated the same way as you suggest.

I have a car and I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest if parking fines run in to the hundreds as I always park in a designated bay with a valid ticket. :D

Local councils need to hire more traffic wardens in my opinion.

    Well bully for you guys!
Keep your fingers crossed that you are not hoisted by your own petard anytime in the future by having, for example, the misfortune of your 'paid for ticket' 'falling' from the dashboard or being unavoidably delayed in returning to to your vehicle due to unforseen circumstances beyond your control.

The BPA are all for it as it makes them look reasonable and more victims will pay up without a fight.

I posted this in Spikes thread and I would like to reiterate:
I'm all for an increase if fines for other crimes are increased proportionately.

So if a fine for parking is to be £120, then I'd argue that shoplifting is far more serious than the average £80 fine imposed. How much more serious? IMHO at least 10 to 100 times more serious. So we should be looking at a minimum fine of £800 to £8,000 for shoplifting.

Can't get excited about it. Park in a car park, pay for your ticket, set your phone alarm for 30 minutes before the ticket runs out and keep an eye on the time.

    Problem solved.

You would if you attracted a ticket because your wheel was grazing the white line due to the plonker in the adjacent bay inconsiderately positioning his/her vehicle in their bay.
