First Firing of new stove questions

Having my new stove installed this week (Aarrow Ecoburn 9). First time using a stove, so what is the best method of lighting the stove. Also, what is the best smokeless coal to use for a stove. Will be burning wood also.

Thanks in advance.

Your installer should commission the stove the first time and give you the HETAS compliance certificate - so you can ask him any queries you have. Plus you will have your manufactuer's booklet and warranty.

Idea is to start slowly and build up. Im sure your installer will also tell you that the stove paint will cure on the first use - so expect some smoke from the outside of the stove.

A small fire first, then gradually build them larger.

As for smokeless, it depends what you can get locally but whatever you do, buy from a proper coal merchant as garage prices are almost always an absolute rip-off!

Which type works best depends a lot on your stove, but I have found that both Taybrite and Newflame work well with mine and are reasonably priced. In the past I used Maxibrite but it seems to be overpriced currently.

Be cautious if you are offered anthracite. Some people find it works well but it's a devil to light and I've never had much joy with it on multifuel stoves.

    Hope that's some help.

Agree with the anthracite, its a nightmare.

My mum has insisted on using it the past two years and unless she has her stove going full pelt, it dies a death and just soots the stove up

Finally have her moved onto the smokeless and shes managing the stove a lot better
