Could anyone tell me how I can find out if I have a firewall already installed on my laptop?? Also, is there any point in having any more than one?
Thanks for your patience!Serendipity13

You probably have the Windows firewall (if you have Windows that is!).
Your question is answered here about half way down:-

Thanks for your replies.
I think I have Window Firewall plus AOL firewall. Do you think that it is unwise to have both running?

Not on the same PC, that'll cause havoc. There is a big advantage (if you are using broadband) to inserting a router between your PC and the cable/ADSL MODEM; most routers have an inbuilt firewall and network address translation (NAT) facility which is a Good Thing!0 -
Turn off your Windows firewall and download Zonealarm.
Been using it for years and no trouble.
I also use Firefox as my internet browser and Thunderbird for my emails and havn't had a virus or anything else for ages. Really good.
And, they're free.

Back again!!!
When I was posting, I was trying to help someone get AVG and Sygate. It was so long ago I did mine.
Trouble is the poor girl is getting lots of block notifications far too regularly to keep sane. I remember getting the same when I installed sygate, but don't remember how I stopped it.
Any recommendation for when I next see her please?0
