Tyres with Supplementary White Numbers Stamped On Side?

I was hoping someone could help. I recently bought some wanli car tyres - both have a white number 85 with a box around it on the side ? Does this mean they are only rated 85 for load, the imprinted mark is 97? I was thinking this supplementary mark is because it is a factory second, and I don't want to drive them if they are not the correct loading?

Any ideas?

  • My beloved Velocity tyres are coming to the end of their lives, and they were the best tyres Ive ever had. Problem is, Yokohama dont make them anymore  Even madder because they were a bargain at £60 a piece!

So, Im looking for 4 Budget Tyres, have you found any that you think highly of? I need 225/45/17 's

You've not told us what car you drive...... It's rather important when selecting tyre's :(

Secondly, when you buys cheap tyre's you really do take your chances im afraid.

never seen that before if its not imprinted on tyre probably be a batch number or something like that if tyres were seconds then you would see regrade imprinted on tyre

why is that important op has told you the size he/she was looking for . yes cheap tyres are not as good as top of range or mid range tyres they wear quicker BUT they are not dangerous you only get what you pay for . for wear i would go for michelin but expensive or hankook mid range .
  • With Wanli on your car id say its an 85% chance of ending up in a ditch on the first wet corner.
Sorry I cant be of more help.
