The only problem with leaving your sat nav in the car is a thief could steal it and set it for 'Home' they know you are not in and break in to your property.

Rule #1 of Sat Nav security is not to set your home address to be your actual home - set it to be a local supermarket, petrol station or police station. Even the most navigationally challenged should be able to find their way home from a few streets away without the help of a Sat Nav.

I also have a dashboard mount rather than a windscreen one. It makes the device easier to remove and also to use.

Don't they have to have a pin code entered before they will work anyway?

Some may do. Mine doesn't. Anyway, I bet those with PINs are likely to be "1111" or "1234". There's just no point in having your exact home address programmed in.

I have a lower end Satnav in my car that I rarely use, but I do have a large road atlas that I leave on the rear seat. I like to think that this says (to a would be thief) that I don't have a Satnav.

My 'Home' address is set to a couple of streets away.
