Elite 2 for pc

Dear Techies!

My dear husband is of an age that spent many hours of his youth in front of the Amiga playing this game! The amiga has long been banished to the loft, and having spent a fortune on various flight sims etc. nothing compares he still yearns to play elite!
I have searched and found that you can download it to PC but I just wondered if any of you guys could help with this process, any favoured site to download from , and how the dosbox? works to convert it.
I am not the most technically minded person so a "download elite for dummies" talk through would be very much appreciated!
It would be great to surprise him!
Hoping someone can help.
Thanks ML.

good grief your making me feel old , i remember Elite 1 on the BBC and ZX speccy .

you need a Amiga emulator program to play the game . we used to play that other Amiga classic "Sensible Soccer" on a PC using one . ( loved the "On the Farm" spoof team . Quacky Duck and Mooey Cow were my star strikers )

no idea what program we used , but i'm pretty sure it never cost my brother anything ( sorry he is the PC wizz , i just used to play it ) .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

There is http://www.oolite.org/ which is a free Elite-inspired game for Windows, Linux or Mac.

There's also http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/, although I think that is closer to Wing Commander than Elite.

It's not free, but there is also Eve.

    Right on, Commander!
Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day.
But give a man a fishing rod, and he'll sell it and buy alcohol.

Exactly! I still use both my A600(occasionally) and A1200. Especially as you don't need a dedicated monitor. Great on my plasma..

Crikey, I remember when I was given an 8mb card for my A1200, as well as a squirrel(anyone rmember those?). I was the bees knees amongst fellow Amiga owners....:rotfl:

Desert Strike, Lethal weapon, Elite, pity their on floppy discs. Mind you I still have all the CDs from CUAmiga( sadly I still have all the mags...:o)
