my only other concern is the sensor
i really would prefer it not to be at the top of my slim 50" plasma
but dont know if my TV base unit would be too low

Yea but its kinda bulky. The Wii sensor is slim and kinda jus fits, the Kinnect is like a big old webcam haha.
