Broadband: moving home

Hi Guys,

We've got about 8 months left on a contract with O2 broadband (and phone). We're moving home next weekend. The new house doesn't have a BT line at present, but 85 quid from O2 seems reasonable to install and activate a new line.

However, the quoted max speed at the new address is 1.4meg. Entirely insufficient for my needs; I work from home with internet-related technologies.

I'm now looking to terminate with O2 and go with cable. However, O2 say that I need to pay out the rest of my contract with them. I'll do that if it comes down to it, but should I be arguing that O2 can't provide an equivalent service at the new address? Is this even a valid legal reason to be able to terminate the agreement?

Thanks for any input,
Iain

It is hardly O2's fault that you are moving to a new home, your speed depends on several factors including line length, if your new property is further from the exchange than your old one then your speed will be lower, I am not quite sure what you think O2 can do, it is not possible for them to move the exchange nearer to your home.

What he said. And apart from anything else, you're breaching your contract anyway by running a business over a residential broadband contract, so I don't thinking complaining to O2 would be very productive...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Er, ta. I think.
