My subscription is due TODAY and on the advice of acquaintances I have downloaded AVAST. Before opening it I need to uninstall Norton. But what happens with the quarantined trojans?? There are more than 2000 and it does not let me erase them other than one by one, answering “yes” or “no” every time…. That could take me a whole day!! Please help… I have lots of problems with my PC and my IT connection and desperatly need it to work. Thanks a lot.
PS A friend also sent me a "commercial" version of Norton he got from his employers... which one should I go for???

Go with Avast, I hate Norton with a passion, Uses a lot of system resources.0

You should first try uninstalling using add/remove programs in your control panel. This will delete the quarantined trojans along with the rest of the antivirus program.
Symantec (Norton) recommend using this option first to uninstall, and only using the removal tool if you have problems with the add/remove programs method. They say that the Windows uninstall does a far cleaner job at uninstalling than the removal tool. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

if you have Norton Internet Security suite then you will also need a firewall
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio-Download.cfm
after 30 days some "extra" features get disabled (not that you wiould everhave used them !!)
and some sort of Anti-spyware

Yep, Norton causes WAY more problems than it ''cures'.0 -
Well thanks to everybody.. I managed to install AVAST. I have adaware and the Symantec firewall, but I can't use it because it clashes with BOTH navigators (Explorer and FIrefox).... should I install another firewall? I have also been having a problem with my IT connection. It cuts off and only restarting the machine can I connect again. That is why I have not ack every one of your messages. I am planning on running the Ontel installation disquette to see if there is something damaged with that program. What do you think??0

Now Avast keeps telling me it is thwarting attacks from LSASS or something like that. There is an address too...0
