Well, I didn't mean to drop my beloved Itouch in a basin of water, but I did and although I immediately took it out it appears to be drowned, as it's not being recognised when I plug it into the computer. I went into our local Apple store, but apparently you have to have an appointment to be able to speak to someone, and as I was in a hurry I couldn't do that. Before all that, I did what was suggested on a forum and put the itouch in a bowl of (dry) rice and left it for a couple of days, but no luck. Have any of you kind techies any suggestions for reviving it, or do I have to save my pennies and get another one?
TIA

Not sure if it is revival or not but perhaps as a last resort you could ask for a battery replacement - around 30 pounds (or so)... Perhaps better than purchasing a new one in terms of price although may be a refurbished ipod touch...
I hope it can be fixed at home etc though. Is it under guarantee?0 -
Take the battery out, shake it to get as much water out as possible, then leave it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days to dry it out.0

There was an episode of the gadget show earlier this year about rescuing a wet mobile phone. The strategies they used were; dry rice, hairdryer, vacuuming, airing cupboard and one other which I can't remember! None worked if the gadget had been in water for a while, but 2 of them worked if it had just had a quick dip, sorry I've forgotten which were the sucessfiul ones - you'll have to watch to find out which ones worked, I think this is the episode:

IIRC Apple will sell you a new one at a fixed price in exchange for the drowned one.0 -
Most important thing I learned with my drowned Poid. Don't turn it on unless it is totally dry.I never realized how much personal info is out there that can be used and abused to suit every purpose.0

yep after it had been in the water and you then plugged it into any sort of power (or tried to turn it on) you killed it dead. :A
for future reference the correct way is (as soon as it is out of the water) to dry the item with a towel and (if you can) take out the battery, then put under an 'on' warm lamp for a couple of days at least, THEN and only then if it looks dry try to power it up.0 -
Thank you all so much for taking the trouble to reply to my post. I am afraid I must have "killed" it myself - first thing I did was to plug it in and switch on! What a plonker, why didn't I come on here first? Oh well, we learn from our mistakes, I suppose, but I am very sad, as it was a present from my son. I will go into the Apple store and see what they can offer, if anything,
Thanks again,
M

I think those situations tend to come down to whether or not you take sugar in your tea.... if you do the odds of anything surviving a quick dip drop off drastically0
