PLEASE HELP
I recently bought a western digital mybook world edition hard drive and it's all been working fine - UNTIL TODAY
I had the above drive, with another external USB drive connected to it for backup purposes. Today something has gone wrong and both my WD drive and my external are trashed, as in all of my data has disappeared from the backup drive and the WD drive has lost all of it's shares, and hence my files.
MY MAIN DRIVE HAS FAILED, AND F*CKED MY BACKUP DRIVE UP AT THE SAME TIME
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP, I had 8 years worth of kids photos etc on both drives, and somehow they've all gone missing??

the post isn't very clear, both usb drives, how were they syncing, have you tried them on a different pc? Can you see any data on the drives?
important data --> third or fourth copy on dvd's if you get your data back!!

This might sound silly but can you actually get into the root folder of your external drive?
Example: Can you go into My Computer, see the external drive, open it and see nothing?
I can not comprehend that a main internal drive simply formats itself and the external mimics it - which is what I interpret from your original post. I am probably reading it wrong though.Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -
Guys/Gals,
Sorry if Original post is a bit unclear, I'm a bit panicked
I have WD drive connected to my router so I can access it wirelessly
I have an additional external drive, which is connected to my WD drive via USB cable
The 'shares' were the drive mappings I could see from my lappy, and were also define as 'shares' under the linux os on the WD drive0 -
stick them into the laptop!!

TwistedPhysco, It's not the internal drive of my lappy thats died, it's the external drive that was connected to my WD drive and my additional external drive0

I never knew you could connect two external HDDs together using a USB cable... [No I am not taking the mickie... I genuinely never knew]
Have you checked that anything you did in the router settings when you first set all this up have not changed? Maybe you have updated the firmware or something on the router (or its automatically updated) and its lost or corrupted the settings?
How is the WD Drive connected tot he router? Ethernet or wifi?
EDIT: Just seen your post at 9:11pm. Thanks for clarifying.Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -
