Nothing too complicated please.....
Help! My husband needs a mobile!
Some days he can spend hours on our (Sky) landline, mostly phoning mobile numbers together with landline numbers, even 0845s etc., etc. because we have moved house so everything has to be dealt with on those stupid expensive numbers.
We used to be with BT but we changed this as he had Sky TV so we went with Sky Lite Broadband and Sky Talk (the one with free weekends and after 7pm). The only trouble is, the people he needs to speak to are only contactable during the day! Mostly on mobile numbers!
My question is this: Which mobile phone do I tell him to get which will give him a 'free reign' to call whomsoever he likes, when he likes. He does the odd text but does not do much texting at all.
I know there is Skype but please don't ask me to tell him about that because he does NOT use the PC at all and probably never will. Personally, Skype would be good for me to speak to relatives in South Africa but I haven't had time to set it up. What are your experiences with International calls through Skpe.....I might as well ask while I am here. The main thing is, a mobile phone for my husband please. Don't give me too much technical information as I am over 60 and it can go over my head a bit.
Thank you everyone for even reading this post and any help you can offer is always good

Skype on three is only for "skype to skype" calls
When you make a "skype to landline" or "skype to mobile" call it's send using the mobiles normal connection so you get charged for data /mins..
Saying that you can get 150mb of data for 50p with their "internet daily" option. or 500mb for £5
That should be enough data for Skype's own client (not the one from Three) to make and receive all calls via skype..Laters

Hi again
Thanks to both replies - really helpful. Personally, I am interested in the Skype feature. Maybe I should just get Skype on my own PC and use it like that for the moment. The information about the Nokia is good and I am printing stuff out for husband to take a look. I was a bit long winded with my Q but very grateful for your help. Maybe it will help someone else too - Cheers!0 -
Skype via a pc to pc is great, free calls to friends on skype anywhere in the world.
I regularly call a friend in Australia and sound quality is good, video calling can be hit and miss depending on your broadband connection/bandwidth but I get a clear picture most of the time. If it drops out you can just redial or stick with the voice call.
The main downside is that your friend must be online and logged into skype.
You can also call landlines for a charge but as I don't use it I have no idea if it is cost effective against other methods.

0845 numbers cost a fortune on most mobiles so don't use the phone for them (or 0870, for that matter). If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button
