  • Its a bit rotten to say to people not to click on them, some people aren't fabulously knowledgeable, I have come here to ask for help for the same thing, my sister has let ThinkPoint onto her netbook by clicking on something which looked like windows security, while she was on the Debenhams website!! I have run malware bytes and it hasn't even seen it on her machine. I am trying spyware doctor now, but no doubt I'll be starting a thread to ask for help in a minute or two.

    Download and run fixexe
After clicking YES it will be fixed (Nothing will visually happen)
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/antivirus-vista-2010/FixExe.reg

Reboot and keep pressing F8 to get into SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot (Into NORMAL mode)

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

I have a question regarding this because they seem to be pretty prevelant these days.

If i was working on my comp and one of these fake security tools pops up what should i do?

    should i

Go to task manager and shut it down there..?

or just log of my computer, and restart,if i do this will it come back?

what would be the best thing to do strait away to stop this from downloading onto the computer.

    Thankyou all.

As soon as it appears disconnect from the internet and then close the pop up/warning down with Task Manager.

Run CCleaner to clear any cookies etc and then run a quick scan with Malwarebytes.

If katie 1 does return, I've worked through the bleepingcomputer link in Grandmasters post, and it seems to have sorted my mates laptop.

(Just running a couple more things, just to check )
    Move along, nothing to see.
