Draught Excluders

My 8yr old daughter wants to sew something on her new sewing machine. I have suggested she starts with a bag (which she can then decorate with buttons, sequins, beads etc etc), and also a draught excluder snake thingy for the front door. My problem is, I don't know what to 'stuff the snake' with (pardon the pun ). Could I use shredded paper? I can get hold of this quite easily and in abundance, but am not sure it would work - would the draught just go straight through it? I don't have enough scrap material nor a spare pillow I could use and any old clothes that the kids have get recycled down to my friends kids.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

I always use old clothes/pillows or buy pillows from poundland to fit my draught excluders.

Old tights are good as stuffing, or an old duvet or blanket.

Your local freecycle may have someone getting rid of old duvets or something else suitable.

Thanks for those ideas - We don't have a pound shop here (must be the only town that doesn't!). I hadn't thought of freecycle - will check it out.

If you have stuffing left over she could make some funky cushions for her bedroom? You could always appeal on Freecycle for old curtains/fabric remnants!

When I make mine I always stuff them with asda carrier bags, always have plenty and they work just fine.

I have just turned two old towels into draft excluders - roll them up and stitch. Or you can put them in a pretty casing if you wish.
