My EDF Eco 2020 savings;

havent seen many people on this tarrif , but i thought i would share with you my experience over the last year;

for this quater we used 814 units at rate 2 (eco 2020) and 774 at rate 1 giving us a bill of £170 (south coast uk).

rate 1 @ 16.3p a unit first 212 units then 11.2p a unit for rest

rate 2 @ 8.9p a unit

so i think , if my math is right , that being on the tarrif, we saved , on average of £20 a quater. along with the DD saving , would be approx £100 a year to the standard tarrif.

any thoughts?

    Figures for a quarter are fairly meaningless, suggest you work it out again when you have 12 months worth of data.
    I take it you heat by electricity.

  • well a quick call to edf shows that in the last 4 quaters (1 year) i have used

    2821 units at standard rate; with the first 900 at 16.3p and the remaining 1921 @ 11.2p

    and eco2020 rate using 3021 units @ 8.9

    so for 1 year using eco2020 saved £70 + the 6% discount for dd

    the reviews i`ve seen say that eco2020 only saves £37 a year - seems im saving more?

    edit:

    its gsa heating , we have 4 children between us and a busy house.

    So you are using 5841 Kwh of electricity over the year and its costing you £630 - £37(DD discount) = £593.

    No idea where you live but in the East Midlands that would cost you £506 on their Online saver v7 tarriff.

    Suggest you try a comparison site yourself.

    Apologies if my maths is out!

    EDF 20:20 is 20% cheaper for 9pm-7am and all weekend.
    It is therefore not a straightforward Economy 7 comparison.

    Spelling it at 2020 gives the impression that it is a ten year fix, which it is not. It is a variable rate.

    Peak rate Tier 1 16.3p, Tier 2 11.2p per kWh
    Off-peak rate 8.9p per kWh

    Peak usage 772 -> 212 @ 16.3 = £34.56, 560 @ 11.2p = £62.72
    Off-peak usage 814 @ 8.9p = £72.45
    Total = £169.73 assume inc VAT.

    Saving against standard rate is pointless, as you could easily be on their Online S@ver 7, which would be £17 cheaper than 20:20, whether you were on standard meter or Economy 7 meter.

    I am on E.On FixOnline 8, standard meter, fixed until 1st July 2011,
    starting May 2010. For the same units consumed:

    772 + 814 = 1586 kWh used
    Tier 1, 242 @ 16.2627p = £39.36
    Tier 2, 1344 @ 7.85p = £105.50
    Total £144.86 inc VAT and 26.70% total discount

    My November quarterly bill was £133.56 inc VAT for electricity, for 1442 units consumed. Because it's on a standard meter, there is no need to care what time I used the washing machine etc.

    "havent seen many people on this tarrif"

    Paying more without the benefit of a fix, restricted off-peak rate: why would anyone want to be on it? If you lke EDF, you should have been on Online S@ver 6/7, standard meter, which would have been £17 cheaper (for EDF London rate), with no time restriction.
  • thank you , you have persuaded me to actually sit down and work it all out - it would very much seem that its time to change !
  • according to my calculations; this years electric bill totalled £638 (without DD discount) , comparing to the online saver 7 it would be £518 - great , but apparantly online saver has a daily charge as well? eco2020 doesnt have that daily charge so adding the £96 (years worth of daily charges) , would actually only save me £20 or so a year.... is that right?

    The standing charge on your eco 2020 is around £43/year, this being the difference between your quarterly tier 1 and tier 2 units.

    Why don't you just use a comparison site to work out the maths.

  • thank you -i am doing , sorry for walking through my thoughts,its really the first time i`ve done this , but on the numbers , the difference is only about £30 a year - at best , since comparison to eco 20:20 is really hard since no one is listing it!

    You already know how much you are paying per annum, so stick any tariff in as a starting point.

  • I was just wondering, how do they know what time of day you are using energy? Do they fit some special meter or something?
