Another refugee from Tiscali/Talktalk.

I've been with pipex/ukgateway/tiscali/talktalk for close on 15 years and, to be honest, most of the time it's been pretty good. Mind you, when it's been bad, it's been awful! (Indian call centres reading scripts etc. ... rant, rant!).

So, yesterday I received the letter "upgrading" my service by increasing the cost by 50% and adding a 40Gb monthly cap. Strange thing is, I contacted them about this time last year (when other people on this forum were getting the same treatment) and they assured me that this wouldn't ever happen to me because of the account type I had .... so I stayed put.

Anyhoo, spat my dummy and signed up for PlusNet (Would have liked O2, but not available on my line). When I contacted Talktalk for a MAC, they offed to give me 3 months free and then permanently reduce my monthy charge to £7.99. I'd already made the descision by then so I'm going anyway. To their credit, the MAC arrived (by SMS & Email) within the hour.

So, I wait to see how the transfer goes. Speaking to PlusNet, they seem pretty good, actually inspire confidence instead of despair, but we'll see.

If you get the TalkTalk "Upgrade", it seems well worth phoning them and threatening to leave before taking any other action: you might end up with a cheaper service!.

Well, the change over to Plusnet went flawlessly and on time, they really do seem to be good to deal with.

Now I wait and see if Tiscali actually stop charging me for their service, in fairness, they have done everything properly so far.

BTW, I can still access my old tiscali & ukgateway email addresses, although I can't send mail via them. If things stay like that I'm actually quite impressed by Tiscali(!)

They can only do that if you fail to cancel your DD after they have taken the final payment.
I only hope that they don't owe you money-it took me about 3 months and many chasers to get an £8 credit due from TT refunded, even though they admitted that I was in credit from day one.

Yeah, I'm ready to cancel the DD as soon as they've taken the final payment BUT I heard tales (probably on this board) of people having debt collectors set on them.
(And didn't they just have a warning from OFCOM to "get their act in order" over just that issue?)
