I don't understand why they don't qualify for help with Macmillan - is it worth trying again? I got a grant of £350 from them which has really helped me. I applied through the Citizens Advice Bureau - is it worth asking them for advice?
Also - ask at the hospital because there may be local charities who could help. I don't know where you are, but I got help from the Wessex Cancer Trust and my local hospital's bowel cancer support group. Speak to one of the specialist cancer nurses, they should know.
What type of cancer does he have? There may be national charities as well, but they tend to help specific cancer types.

A hospital transport car would seem the right solution for the patient as it wouldn't involve them having to hang around all day waiting for ambulance minibus type transport.
The nurse specialist on the patient's treatment team can arrange this and TBH it needs sorting out asap as given the patient's age and the length and frequency of the treatment program they may find themselves unable to drive, or at very high risk of having a driving accident......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Try the CAB - they have access to local grant makers or go to the library and look for a book called Grants for Individuals in Need and apply direct to a grantmaking trust.0

A relative of ours received one off £200 grant/payment from Macmillan to assist with hospital visiting costs and general transport costs as the hospital to home journey was about 40 miles each way. A form had to be completed, a section had to be completed by the hospital social worker and also some reference from the specialist nurse. The applicant was receiving chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. You would be entitled to apply for this too if you feel your income is relatively low and your disposable income totals no more than £100 each
Also, Errata is quite correct about the ambulance transport. I have been considering doing this myself as a volunteer. People come forward and receive some expenses to cover their fuel and running costs and they give up their time to do 'hospital runs' for patients and their expenses are paid by the PCT. If your hospital is in the same county as you, then they may be able to to organise this for you. If this involves a journey cross county, then you will need to register within your own county and give them 48 hours notice by telephone for appointment journeys. You may have to share your ride with one or two other patients - but the journey will be a return one and in a private care with a volunteer driver and at no cost to you. I suggest you ask at your own family doctor's surgery for the phone number in your county.
Good luck - I hope the treatment and the transport process goes well.0
