  • This has just happened to me as well

It started yesterday - my lap top is approx 4 years old and has been running vista since it was bought - the pop up is for SP1 and is dated 2009

This has coincided with a change in windows live which happened automatically.
  • Hi,

as stated in post 4, check control panel, system, and see what it says.

Now has a screwed computer thanks to the update. Has an "error" that has been flashing on the screen for about half an hour.

It's not unusual for a Service pack installation to fail so late in the day. Malware or conflicts with other software.

You can run System Restore taking the system back to a point before you attempted the SP installation or if you like, run a clean install and update to SP2 before reinstalling any software programs.

    Make and model(full)?

You can create your own discs if necessary. I'll talk you through it if you get to that point.

System is now back up and running, but it's gone back "home" now. It was a Packard Bell so it had a system restore thingy/Windows repair thing anyway, managed to restore itself to before the update was put on. Thanks for the help anyway.
