Is it a legit update? Why is the date 18 months ago?

through windows update? yes it is 100% legit, that's the date when SP1 was released, and I think that vista is now on service pack 2 so after you have installed that update you may get another for SP2

edit that is the date SP2 was released are you sure it isnt SP2? even if it isnt you want to update to SP2 as it's the latest one

It says Windows Service Pack 1

So I can update it for her then? Pardon my ignorance, but it won't affect anything on the laptop will it? Other than windows?

OK so if it ain't the right one where would I get an SP2 update?

nope it wont effect anything all programs and the computer will work the same, the only difference you will notice is is in 'System' it will say 'vista service pack 1' (or service pack 2 if you update it to 2) instead of just 'Vista'

after all the service pack is just a collection of normal individual updates delivered in a 'pack'.
  • Hi,

just wondering why you are getting update now, had MIL not had a previous notification?

FF was recently installed so it's currently 3.6.12 and the date has always been right that I know of.

Should I go ahead and download and install this KB936330 update?

yes it is just a normal windows update, after you have installed it, it will likely pop up that service pack 2 is also available you also want to install that aswell.

one reason to update is that vista with no service packs stops being supported next year whereas SP2 will be supported for a few more years to come.
