  • I'm not wrong. You have 6 years after you purchase a product to take it back to complain

This is part of the secret six year warranty proffered by the EU.

    I has an update.

Before I gave the laptop back to Comet to repair I had a 3rd party look at it as I've heard a couple of horror stories about their repairs. It turned out that it was just a faulty hard disk so it was an easy problem to fix.

I gave the laptop to Comet a week or two ago and got it back from them on Firday. The machine still refuses to work. When I switch it on it sits on the Acer screen indefinately. If I press F2 to go to the setup screen it can take several minutes to go to there.

I have tried installing an OS of the recovery disks, a Vista disk and an XP disk. It started installing XP then went to the blue screen of death after a few minutes advising me that there was something wrong with the hard disk. My assumption is that they've installed a dodgy HD which has then failed.

The shop that looked at it originally agreed that it is still faulty.

What are my options now? I'm not particularly enamored with giving it back to them. If they can't install a new hard disk then what can they do? Ideally I'd like to reject any offers of a repair and get a refund but I'm not sure if this is realistic.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

    Hi Stokesy,

I have continued to monitor the situation, and I am aware that your laptop has since been returned to us for a further inspection, which our Leeds service centre have committed to complete today.

On completion of today’s inspection, a member of our Managing Directors Office will therefore be in further contact with you, to provide a further update. In the meantime, please accept our apologies for the delay!

    Thanks
