'Old' Phone Recommendation - personal organiser

I need to change to using the O2 network as it is the only network on which I can get a signal in my flat. Due to my current financial circumstances I need to keep costs down and don't want to risk cashback offers. So I have decided to go for an O2 SIM only deal that covers the amount of mins I need.

I don't think my current (and very old!) phone can be unlocked as it is on the 3 network. Does anyone have any recommendations for a phone that is considered 'out of date' by todays offerings that has a good personal organiser on it that I can pick up relatively cheaply 2nd hand? (I'm unconcerned with features such as camera, internet access, music players etc.)

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I don't have any specific recommendations, however some helpful information...

You say O2 is the only network suitable for you due to coverage. As giffgaff and Tesco Mobile both use the O2 network, they should be suitable for you also.

Also, it is also quite likely that your current phone can be unlocked - 3 network does not preclude this. Post the make and model and someone here could probably advise.

Also, knowing your current phone might help us understand your expectations regarding a personal organiser. Even the cheapest phones these days have some form of personal organiser.

    regards

Think "3" will charge you to unlock (pre-pay & pay as you go i think!) Call them up and ask.

But it might be cheaper to take it to a local Mobile shop to unlock it.

Thank you both for the advice.

Les, am I right in thinking that although giffgaff and Tesco 'piggyback' onto the O2 network that I wouldn't get free calls to phones on the O2 network? (which is a handy benefit of being on O2 as my girlfriend is O2).

My current phone is a Sony Ericsson K610i. It has nothing special in the way of a personal organiser (just a calendar), but would like something with a bit more functionality if at all possible without spending more than around £60.

However if I am able to unlock my current phone, I'll stick with it for now!

You are correct. I solved this by getting my wife to follow me to giffgaff. However my Dad stayed with O2. So he texts my daughter (who is also on O2), and she forwards the text to me (she has unlimited texts). My Dad is a bit tight ;-)

I had one of those myself once, great phone. I think a lot of the standard cheap phones wouldn't be able to match it, however a clearance of a good phone should. If you are used with SE I would stick with it. If I was looking for a cheap SE phone, I would consider refurbished ones from the Carphonewarehouse:

    They are nearly always unlocked.

If you do want to get your own phone unlocked, I would expect your local independent phone shops to do it for £10.
