How about getting the kids to do some paintings, then hold an art exhibition and auction them to the highest bidder. Contact local newspapers to publicise the event and try to get some prominent townsfolk such as a councillor or the mayor to come along. Target affluent philanthropists and make a packet.

Just an idea off the top of my head, not done it before myself but I think I might give it some thought for my youngest's nursey.

  • Hiya,
I think that the tesco sports for schools scheme is a great one. You can collect them yourself and also advertise for people without kids to donate them to your nursery/pre-school. If you do online Tesco shopping they invariably give you a big wadge of coupons whatever the amount you spend.

Edit - Also I have seen some posts on here asking for these

Wilkinsons donate any discontinued stock that doesn't sell at 75% off to chatity so if you have a local store would be well worth asking think you need to write to the manager I would imagine if you contacted other loal business you might get something.
What about getting people to make things to sell heres a great idea that i bet everyone would know someone they could buy this for and dead simple to make to and only costs a few pene to producewww.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1087

Try your local McDonalds, they are very good at supporting such events although it does cut against the Jamie Oliver school dinners methadology. Lobby the parents and major local employers.
One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.

Ask in the locally owned shops- the small shops will ofter support local groups if you ask them. They were the only ones I used to support, as I knew that the items would be helping locals.
  • hi my sons pre school are also a registered charity ,one way they get donations are to hold a bring and buy sale every 6 months, any one who sells stuff gives 25% to the pre school and if you help out you donate 10% of your profits, its a reaaly good way of gettintg rid of stuff you dont need any more and helping out the school, both times the school have raised £250 which brought some much needed stuff
