The regs are you really need the certificate. I wouldn't sign one off on someone else's work TBH and I can't imagine any other tradesman would either.

ok so i go with someone who can sign off the work and provide a certificate. but at what point does a certificate need to be present. i.e if you add new lights and sockets does that still need certification or does it only need certification when it is a new rewire etc

anyone in the trade comment on this?

    thanks

Small jobs like adding sockets etc. need a Minor Works Cert. (MWC), larger jobs like adding a circuit, a rewire or changing a CU need an Electrical Installation Cert. (EIC)

had a quote for the following

full rewire, new CU, seperate CU for the 3 outhouses

    20+ new sockets/locations
lights and power in the attic
8 new lights/points (3 pir detection security lights included, the rest fluresent strips)
    cables chased in the wall
    certificate

    £2800

does that sound a fair price

Sounds very fair! Get references and more quotes. Depends on the area of the country but have paid about £4500 for the same in London. We did have a lot of spotlights and extra cicuts for burlgar alarm, smoke detectors, garden, cooker, firdge freezer and loft.

    Hi Dave

we are in North Wales and they have been recommended to me through family and friends etc. They certainly knew what they were doing when they came to check out my electrics which did give me confidence. they talked through how everything was wired etc etc

this includes the loft, outhouses, 2 wired smoke alarms which are a must if you get a full rewire (apparently) and they have factored in the cost of labour of 10 days

i have someone else coming tonight and i will see what they say

    thanks

the average full rewire price, for a 3 bed house, is 2200 to 2800 quid.
