Scottish Power have stuck their prices up - bigger jump than british gas but less than southern and scottish. I think its 8.9%. I saw uswitch tweeting about this and there is a link to their site - google it for a link

the guy opposite at me at work is furious - he just swapped from british gas to get the scottish power 70 quid cashback offer thing on uswitch - does he just need to call them to cancel this transaction or can uswitch do it for him? can he still drink the uswitch wine if he cancels?

there is !!!!!! all info on the scottish power site about the price rise but i dont think uswitch we be talking rubbish? or would they?

At least with bg had the balls to get on the news and talk about it.... typical scottish tactic to hide it in the press late on a friday afternoon.....poor scttish people, less haggis and irnbru from here on in for u!

EON to go next? sweepstake on how much they'll go up? 10% is my starting bid...
    Hi deondublin

Your friend from work can cancel his switch – but he’ll need to cancel it with ScottishPower direct. I’m afraid he won’t get the cashback or the wine though! He may not be affected by the price rise – it depends which tariff he switched to. If it was a fixed price tariff he’ll be protected, so I’d suggest checking that out.

    Hope this helps.

At what point do the comp sites upate the prices? After the anouncement, or at the date the increase takes effect?
    Hi macman,

We update our prices on the same day as the announcement, to make sure our results will be accurate.

    Mmmmmmm

having just looked at uswitch details please find this link
    http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity-process/help/pricechanges/?PopupType=help

this clearly indicates that the pricing for scottish power was last updated on the following:

    ScottishPower 01/03/2010 01/03/2010 -8% 0%

Am unable to find the values on which the current calculation is based so therefore unable to establish if they have or have not taken into account the official price increase valid in 3 days time..
for an annual saving it should be 3 days at the current price and then 362 days at the known projected published price.

I guess the only way to find out is to do a comparison in three days time and see if scottish power are still indicate similar savings.

Sorry Lauren I am not convinced.

Apologies duncan303, that table hasn't been updated - I will get onto it today! The up-to-date version of the table can be found here - http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/gas-electricity-prices/.

  • Thanks Lauren,

However I am still unclear as to which database reflects the pricing with respect to the current savings calculation. This information does not seem to be published ( or I cannot find it) on Uswitch, ie this is your calculation based on these figures.

I finally received my contract from Scottish Power yesterday so I still have 6 days to cancel leaving a little time to either do the calculations myself or check against other comparison sites assuming they update formulae based on official press release announcements.

My gut feeling is still that on the 25th or shortly thereafter Scottish Power online 11 will not be on the first page of results.

This particular tariff is index linked to their standard tariff, so I guess I need to run off and establish when the standard tariff was last changed by SP and guess whether it is also due for a hike, in a few weeks time.

Thanks again Lauren for your interest.

    Hi duncan303,

Sorry - I had to go away and check this!

If you do a comparison for ScottishPower (or any of the other energy suppliers who have put their prices up recently) we will use the post-price rise cost to calculate your potential annual bill. This is because it takes around 6 weeks for your switch to go through, so by the time it does, the price rise will have come into force.

  • I'm currently with British Gas, WebSaver 5 for Gas and Click Energy 6 for Electricity.
I've seen on another thread that BG gives free insulation and energy products. Which ones are they?
And does anyone know about any other BG tariff that I might have missed?

    Thank you :)
