Modems and broadband

Hello, I am very new at this, so please forgive any errors!
I want to upgrade to broadband, but I am confused about the modem situation. I am already a onetel customer, and thus thought to go with them. They are quoting some £60 for their modem; however they do say that if you get a modem from elsewhere I can still upgrade with them. £60 is a lot of money to me. Can anyone who understands these things please advise me whether it would be better to buy a modem separately, or to stump up the £60 for the onetel one?
Many thanks, in anticipation!

don't bother with a modem - get a router with a built in firewall.0

Many compnaies will "give" you a free modem when you sign up so I would certainly shop around first.
You can get loads of deals.
Basically the modem in your PC (if it is an internal one) will become redundant when you go onto broadband as the modem you need is different. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
