I always wonder what they actually can do on a boiler service? apart from check there are no birds nests in the flue (60 seconds) sniff for gas (10 seconds) maybe take a monoxide reading (90 seconds)
Mines been working well for 20 years without service, although the control pcb burned out once but was easy to replace. Can't find anything adjustable on it to 'service' or calibrate' etc0 -
Hi,
It's not just flue gas readings that are checked.
If you have your boiler looked at every year you might just catch something which will cost a lot more in the long run to fix.
Eg.
A leak on a pipe over the casing of the boiler. It will eat a hole in the casing and be a total replacement if the casing is discontinued.
A leak within the boiler which could eventually take out an expensive componant.
Or just let it go year after year. Boiler Lotto!! yay

Think hard because new ones might be more efficient but can also tend to be less reliable and expensive to repair, add on the maybe £2k replacement and the payback might take quite a long time0

My dad has a 3 year old Worcester, British Gas turned up to service it, plugged a laptop in to the boiler, checked his email, then left 20 mins later.0

(I am still sulking because her ladyship wouldn't let me buy the fridge with the TV in the door, said something like she didn't want any more vegetables watching day time TV)0 -
Love the humour:rotfl:
Our BG yearly service we feel worth the yearly outlay...we have quite an older style Vailliant Boiler...some parts are discontinued now...when it has gone wrong, 4 times now in the 10 years we have been here the bills would have been mega. Each breakdown occasion they have arranged very speedy engineers appointments...never have we felt let down by this service contract.
(although I have been subject to the wrath...actually the person was abusive... of BG customer service supplier complaints dept I can seperate the boiler service...just by a thread:eek:)
