Stinky sink

try either soda crystals if you have them or Bicarbonate of Soda.
when i use the bicarb I also put a couple of tablespoons of vinegar down too. then put a little boiling water down in the morning. leave for five mins or so then flush with clean hot water from the tap.
if you dont have either soda crystals or bicarb then empty your vinegar bottle down there or even a bottle of cola. leave overnight then flush with clean water.
hope this helps0 -
There's maybe something clogging the u-bend could you unscrew it and clean it out. Put a basin underneath to catch the gunk I have had to do it before and there was hair clogging it still don't know how hair managed to get down the kitchen sink.0

Thanks so much for the tips. I'll give the vinegar a go tonight, and if that doesn't clear it up I'll see about clearing the pipes. Fingers crossed it won't come to that!0

I would get straight into cleaning the pipes, it is very easy to do and I did mine last week. Vinegar won`t shift the gunk that you will find sticking to the sides. Have a bowl ready to take the pipes to another sink, wear rubber gloves and clean with a drop of bleach in warm water0

does it smell like boiled eggs? mine does this occasionally and more often than not clears itself. had to unscrew it once though and it was blocked"I have learnt that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one""You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”Maya Angelou0

I have just done the washing up, and noticed there is a horrid smell coming from the drain. I've noticed it before and put some bleach down overnight, but it didn't really seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas? I dread getting up tomorrow to a stinky kitchen!
I also suspect it's a blocked u-bend
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more ideas.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Do you have a dishwasher or washing machine connected to the U bend?
Sometimes they are connected before the U part and then the smell can be actually coming from the machine pipes rather than the drain.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0
