Bottle of cheap cola (leave it to sit for as long as poss in the u bend) will clear anything trapped that maybe making the smell.0

If youve got a bottle trap underneath the sink it may have become clogged and need emptying/cleaning.
Its a messy job tho0 -
Washing soda and hot water is good for getting rid of grease which may be partially blocking the drain and causing stagnant water and smells.
Either dissolve the soda and pour down or put a heap in the sink and pour on a kettle of boiling water. Try not to use the sink for a couple of hours after treatment.0 -
Take the bottle trap off and give it a good clean. A bit of muck won't hurt you. I always find it very therapeutic to clean blocked pipes. Mind you, I'm a bloke and don't mind getting my hands dirty. Make sure that you have a bowl underneath as the trap will have dirty water in it. No chemicals of any kind required using my method.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Hi glitterygirl,
There's an earlier thread that may help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Unblocking the kitchen sink

Has anyone come across the problem of their kitchen sink area smelling stale? It’s not the actual sink/drain itself, but the draining board area. It’s a white plastic sink area rather than metal. I recently bought a dish draining rack and after a few days realised that the dripping water was pooling underneath on the draining board but have cleaned it with various products since then and the smell is back every morning.
Any suggestions of what might help?
Thanks.0 -
I squirt ours with thick bleach, boil the kettle and pour over then dry0

I would use either bicarb and a cut lemon or sprinkle with soda crystals leave for 20 minutes and then Rinse off with boiling water from the kettle.
A good tip is to wash the drainer after every use and stand upright until next time.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I know there is probably a lengthy thread on this somewhere, but I really need help FAST! I have just done the washing up, and noticed there is a horrid smell coming from the drain. I've noticed it before and put some bleach down overnight, but it didn't really seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas? I dread getting up tomorrow to a stinky kitchen!0
