IVA- who did you choose &why ?

Options
Hi, we're at the start of all this. we saw the CAB& have seen a money adviser,he said the CAB usually refer people to Grant Thornton and another, not sure who.they are still looking at our case.

i'd appreciate any feedback on how you chose the company to help sort your IVA & what your experience of them has been like.

i understand from this site to avoid anyone charging up front fee's.
thanks for your time.

I work for CAB and we refer to Grant Thornton only, as we have specialist advisors from Grant Thornton who work with the bureau advising clients on insolvency options where an IVA may be appropriate. They're who I'd recommend really but it's worth asking around.

thankyou for your reply. some people have posted problems they've felt relating to who they've used,i understand some are due to not being clear on what we might be signing. i want it to work,it is a lot to take in at a time when so stressed.

I think you hear good and bad stories with everyone really. I know that CAB's have a good relationship with Grant Thornton as we know they're not a company that's only interested in the fees and we trust them professionally and to treat our clients right. I suppose that's as good an endorsement as you can get but we don't officially recommend anyone as we're impartial and nonbiased. It would be worth you speaking to a few IVA providers and basing your choice on the quality of advice you get.

I used Blair Endersby - picked a hugely scientific way - it appeared as a pop up, i filled in their form and someone called me....

I obviously got lucky too - as there are a lot of people who have had nothing but trouble with them (so they say) but I can hand on heart say that I have had a fabulous service and no problems whatsoever.

I wouldnt recommend picking an IP without having a good look and doing a LOT of research though - I had no idea about the IVA forum, or even this place 5 years ago, I just got lucky.

    good luck

I had Melanie Giles as my IP - I was with a local firm and they stopped doing IVAs and I got transferred to her at Philip Gill and Co in Cardiff - she is very good and very well known in the Insolvency world - she is an active contributer to the IVA forum which is vital reading while in an IVA and she rarely ever has a settlement offer turned down. I never met her and everything was done over phone and internet and went well.

I appreciate the responses,it's difficult with no experience at a time when so stressed.

I'm with Melanie Giles of 'The IVA Advice Bureau' and have nothing but praise for her and the way her firm conduct themselves. I found her company via 'iva.co.uk' and this was a good place to read up on peoples experiences.

    Good luck
